For an NYC-Center-Hotel very nice, comfortable, new renovated and big rooms! Private bathroom was kinda stylish! Location: 2 min. Walk to the subway, nice breakfast places very close to the hotel! Perfect hotel if you wanna be in Manhattan, but in a quiet location during the night!
No breakfast, loud, crazy neighbors in the opposite house

Nice sized room and helpful staff.

Internet connection convenient, the staff weren't too bad.
Room was a bit on the small side, the hotel could do with a make over. Looks much nicer on the advertisement than it actually is. Overated on price, the hostel around the corner looked nicer.

Location is great, very close to the subway for travelling down Broadway. Breakfast serving coffiee shops and a grocery shop less than 5 min walk away. Hotel staff very nice, room was clean.
It was 94°F (34°C) in New York and the air conditioning system in the room made a lot of noise (but worked very well). The website of the hotel is not great and email communication before arrival was not optimal.

I have stayed at hotel Alexander for 11 nights , which I have to say was not the most pleasant stay I could have imagined . I booked the hotel early on so unfortunately there was no way of changing it when we go there .The front desk staff seem to be as clueless as ever , there was no wifi through out entire stay ( as we were on a business related trip this was an extreme inn ) even after a phone call was made to the manager of the hotel , we received to no reply to out complaint . On the plus side , the rooms were cleaned very well every day .unfortunately our room seemed to be under constructions as there was an extra small room being turned into a bathroom. The location of the hotel was good ( 96th subway) Overall , although the price was not too high , I would not recommend this hotel to anyone for more then 3 days .

The location of this hotel is wonderful. It is only one and a half blocks from a subway station, in a residential neighborhood. A quick walk to Broadway puts you in the middle of lots of shops, cafes, restaurants, etc. And it is a quick train ride to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and museums. I don't mind sharing the bathroom to get the cheaper rate, the bathroom was always clean and we didn't have a problem getting in to shower. Some people might be uncomfortable with sharing a bathroom.
The bed was very firm and not comfortable. Also, the hallways were noisy. We could hear people closing room doors, closing the bathroom door, and talking fairly often.

This Hotel was a very pleasant surprise. It is hard to get even an okay hotel in Manhattan for under $200 per night. This was clean and neat with a good wifi link. We had one of the on suite rooms, there are cheaper rooms where you have to share bathrooms with other guests. I had a look at the shared bathrooms and these also seemed very clean. The hotel is less than a 5 minute walk from the nearest subway (on Broadway) and lots of restaurants. It is about a 10 minute walk form Central Park and 2 blocks from a laundromat. You could also walk into NY Central, it will take about 45-60 min to time square, but the subway is quick and cheap. I will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

It is a nice hotel in a quiet street near Hudson river but, nevertheless, close to Broadway and an close to the underground station. Rooms are very good, clean and, in our case, with a very good bathroom.

Nothing was really exciting in this hotel. Oh, the bed was actually good. And... That's it!
It would be difficult to be exaustive... For the high price, you will get terrible service, no rest room nor shower in your room, a very small room with view on a wall. But the best thing is when it comes to the bill! They pretend not to have any change if you pay cash, and refuse you to pay the bill the day before... So that it really looks like a very nasty trap. Poor service, poor ethics, poor quality for the price. You got it. You'd better try another district! Or spend even more money for a decent accomodation.

You get what you pay for when looking for a cheap hotel in New York but with the Alexander you get a bit more. A clean room, friendly staff and an excellent location. The subway is only 1,5 blocks away and after a 5 minute ride with the 2 or 3 express train you're at Times Square. For only a $130,- a night it's a bargain for New York standards. Really recommend this hotel for everyone.
The only small complaint you could have is the noise at night. All those air conditioners make a lot of noise but it's really the only small bad thing and something that goes for most hotels anyway.
